A Photo-less Weekend

DISCLAIMER: A brief reprieve from vacation photos for some real time updates. This may be quite boring for the rest of you, but I want to remember this weekend because while it was uneventful, we really just had a good time together. (end of DISCLAIMER)

We had a good weekend. We took no pictures, but it was fun none-the-less. It was our first weekend back after vacation and we felt like we were back to getting our ducks in a row.

SATURDAY
A wedding shoot in Mystic, CT. We had a great talk on the car ride up. And I got to drive – which I hardly ever do, so it’s a fun thing for me. It was a long day for sure, but it was gorgeous! A beautiful small New England church and the reception was at Eiola Mansion, which is STUNNING. It looks like an estate in the English countryside. I wanted to be in a Jane Austen novel. And their band was UN-BELIEVABLE. A tiny Asian chick was the lead singer and she could SAAANG. Belting out some Jackson 5 won us right over. Impressive. And the bride surprised the groom with a groom’s cake that was a foot and a half tall Starbucks coffee cup. (I think because he brought her coffee every day at work). It looks like the guys from Ace of Cakes made it. Didn’t get home until 2am, but Geoff let me nap the last half hour in the car, because of his great love for me. A good day. And the last big wedding day of the season. We have a couple more shoots, but getting through this weekend was a big hurdle. We feel good about it.

SUNDAY
We slept IN. Like we were in college or something. And then stayed in our bathrobes for another two hours after that. And I loved every second of it. Then we took a fun trip to the magical land of Brooklyn! Although we live about 10 minutes from it, we hardly ever go there. New York is just like that. One of my co-workers lives in Hells Kitchen (50s on the west side) and never goes south of 14th Street.

We picked up some gear from one of our shooters and went for a late lunch at a Mexican place in Park Slope. We then popped into a bakery for a brownie and headed off to pick up a new microwave, since our old one died a few days before we went on vacation. While we were there, we may have accidentally picked up a flat screen TV for the bedroom. We came home and watched Happy-go-Lucky. And we both wished we hadn’t.

MONDAY
I had the day off! We had breakfast and lingered over some coffee (or I did) and then we set out on an adventure to the Queens Center Mall. Firstly, we took the bus. An adventure in itself. Second, it was Columbus Day, so the mall was PACKED. Not AS fun. But we picked up a new cable box, some new pillows for the bed (‘cause Geoff’s neck has been hurting every morning), and some replacement bath towels. Replacement because one day while Geoff was bringing the laundry home from the laundromat on our special cart, the bag full of towels may or may not have accidentally have fallen off/been stolen behind his very back. This also happened just before vacation. So see, lots of getting our ducks back in a row now that we’re back in real life.

On the way back we made many friends on the crowded bus. Two African American women who were trying to figure out what to feed the kids for lunch. One was pro-Wendys, anti-KFC and though they declined, I could tell they both liked Geoff for offering them his seat. They told us about how an Elk Lodge we passed used to be a popular WWF Wrestling arena years ago. And we were sitting next to a man who used to live in our neighborhood years ago. He is now retired and I believe has 6 kids with at least one set of twins. He has 3 grand kids who he never sees because they live so far away. We were sad for that. He was nice.

We had a late lunch once we got home and Geoff set up our new TV. I programmed all the shows on the DVR. Which made me a happy camper. I was snuggled among the pillows in my sweats with the fading daylight, programing HGTV shows to be recorded. Mama was happy. We ordered Thai food, opened a bottle of Savignon Blanc and watched a movie from our bed during dinner on TV trays. It sounds ridiculously indulgent, but we loved it. I don't actually need more than that. And its where I would like to spend a lot of my time.

In fact, I'm headed there now....
